SLII has just finished airing tonight. These are the final episode summaries and my comments on the episode. An upcoming review of SL2 can be found on my site…
Upon knowing that Selena’s incident was not merely an accident and robbery, Sammul suspected his boss, Kwok Fung of the crime and aimed to get revenge. Because the law will not punish him for his doings, Sammul will do it. He appears to be helping Kwok Fung and is on his side, but instead tries to use this as an advantage to make him lose the case. Later he finds evidence that Kwok Fung was indeed part of the murder, he offers it to the police anonymously, but Kenneth reveals the truth in court. Sammul lost his license as a lawyer.
Although Kwok Fung was the not real murderer, it was his mistress, Queenie Chu, who killed Kenneth’s friend. It appears that Quennie and his friend were once friends in the past and one day Queenie met him again on the streets. Quennie tells him about Sammul stealing Kwok Fung’s company’s blueprints and the guy agrees to help steal Sammul’s laptop to get rid of the evidence if he was paid enough. When the guy tried to rob Quennie for more money, she accidentally stabbed him. She left the house and Kwok Fung arrived then. Because he knew it was Queenie who’d done it, he did not reveal it to the police and even tried to destroy the evidence. However, just then, the police came and Kwok was arrested for murder.

The ending was happy as expected. It took place on Ella’s ship. Waise and Rebecca are happy and he is planning on publishing Kwok’s case to earn some money. Power and June have no more problems now and he is sure that she loves him. She is pregnant with his child. Sammul lost his memory when he was accidentally pushed onto a table and is recovering. She doesn’t remember exactly everything about his past, but believes Selena. Selena and Sammul have a baby son. And of course, Selena wakes up from her coma. Kenneth and Ella are happy together as well and Ella reveals that she began having feelings for Kenneth when he jumped into the ocean one night and swam all the way back to Hong Kong for “justice”. To prove herself to him and to “justice, Kenneth and Ella jumped off the ship. Later, all eight of them come together and have cake that Sammul baked. Kenneth was feeding Ella some cake and Ella refuses to open her mouth(Aww…this part is very cute). Kenneth, in a joking manner, smashes the cream on her face and she wipes it away and hits him lightly. Kenneth then helps her and begins kissing her in front of everyone. There are a lot of “wows” and “ooohs” from everything. Indeed a happy ending where
all four couples are at sea.
Comments. I would not say that this series is execellent, but better than most comedy series TVB tends to do these days. The cases here was nothing very special or suspenseful. I think my favorite one was the one with Kenneth’s daughter. She is a very cute actress and I love her scenes with Kenneth and Ella. The last murder case was okay, but I knew Queenie has something to do with it so it was not very fun. The thing is that I hope TVB will make more complicated and difficult-to-solve cases. There is nothing special with these simple cases. The series is overall, good, and watchable, but it is not something I would probably want to watch again.
Kenneth and Ella were the best couple and brought the best chemistry. Kenneth played all sides of the character extremely well, if not to perfection. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but I don’t have anything negative to comment on his performance. It was not annoying or anything, but well done. Ella, on the other hand, depicted the spoiled and bratty and know-it-all side with exceptional applause, but the emotional and sad scenes are lacking sentimental depth. Hope she can improve and I definitely like her here more than in Revolving Door of Vengeance (2005) with Ron Ng.
Unfortunately, Sammul and Selena’s screen time was less than I expected. They did not have much scenes together and I did not feel the development in their relationship. They only have like one of two scenes in each episode and that is if they were in that episode at all. So Sammul lost his lawyer’s license? And he can never gain it back like he did in the prequel? That is quite sad since he is overall a lawyer.
I never really considered SLII to be a sequel of SL simply because Sammul was the only left star in the SLII. What is the point anyway?
Stay tune for my review which will be written up soon. Visit my site to read it.

Only two more episodes of SLII to go after this post! The story is wrapping up and its one of the most intense and suspenseful scenes in the series.

Kenneth and Bo Bo’s (his daughter) aunt were fighting for her at court and Kenneth finally won when Bo Bo came to court spoke out the truth. She told the judge how nice Kenneth treats her and how she really likes to be with him. Although she likes her aunt, but does not like her aunt’s husband, who is actually her real father. The moments with Kenneth and her daughter is indeed very cute and enjoyable, in almost every scene though I don’t see how Kenneth really treats her that well, especially in the beginning. He only realizes that she is important to him when he was about to lose him. I guess that was it: you have to lose something in order to know that someone is worthy. I am really enjoying Kenneth’s acting from beginning to end. His acting is practically flawless! He deserves more lead roles.
In order to when the case, Ella even agreed to marry to Kenneth. No just kidding, but it is still true. When the Pierre Ngo (the lawyer helping the aunt’s side) attacked that Kenneth was a single man and therefore could not provide the care for Bo Bo like her aunt and husband can, Ella agreed to marry Kenneth right there. At in the courts. Right in front of the judge! She actually even proposed to him. Well, not really. She only says, “I love you.”
The two agrees to marry, but Ella’s father disagree. Later, after Kenneth encouraged him to, he attended their wedding which was at the courts. Rebecca Chan took the role of the priest and Kenneth’s daughter was the flower girl. It was a simple wedding, but it was very funny.

Selena’s bakery is opening and on that day she plans to bring a cake to one of her first customer who has replied and loves her cake. She does not know that her first customer was actually her ex-boyfriend, Sammul. When she went into his house, she was shocked, but happy to see a ring on the table. Sammul was planning to propose to her. Unfortunately, Sammul has stole Kwok Fung’s blueprint of his next project and has it on his computer. Sammul wanted to blackmail his boss so that he will not be controlled by him. Someone came into his apartment and stole his laptop and Selena, thought that it was Sammul coming home, went out to see. She was attacked and went into a coma.
Waise Lee sees his “sifu” again and with his help his disorder is now gone. He does not want to be just a lawyer who takes those small cases, but he wants to be a “dai jaung” (those cases which you have to go to the Supreme Court to fight).
One of the Kenneth’s friends was murdered at his new house, which was still under construction. When Kenneth and Ella arrived to the scene, the police arrested Ella’s father (Kwok Fung)…

Another post on SLII thoughts.
Sammul & Selena
Sammul and Selena have broken up because of the problems with her parents. Selena also wants to marry Sammul, but he thinks its not the right time yet because he’s still not well-known and does not have any money to support her and her family. Furthermore, he thinks that he cannot provide happiness for her yet. However, he still loves Selena a lot and is still willing to do anything for her. Including illegal things. His boss Kwok Fung made a deal with him. Well not really. If Sammul refuses to be Kenneth’s witness, then he will offer Selena money to open her own bakery. Selena really likes cooking and she just came back from Italy and has her own ambitions now. Before she put Sammul first and now she wants to satisfy herself. Sammul, knowing that Selena is pregnant with his baby, does not want to disappoint Selena and agrees to give a false report at court.
Kenneth & Ella
Kenneth now loves Ella and openly admits it at court while Ella feels embarrassed and slaps him because just then, she realizes that her father is having an affair with her best friend, Queenie Chu. Ella goes to Italy as a vacation and meets Selena there. When she returns, she forgives her father and accepts his relationship with Queenie. Soon she perceives her father’s “real” face and that he wasn’t the good father she always thought him to be. In order to keep his reputation, he is willing to sacrifice the poor people. He forces Sammul to lie in court, after the three years he has been trying to gain his lawyer’s license back. (I cannot believe Sammul is so dumb. He lost his license three years ago because he was doing illegal things and in the beginning of this series, he repeatedly discouraged Kenneth from winning a case illegally. Now he is doing it. Although he is doing for her girlfriend and her baby, it is still very ignorant of him. He just contradicted every thing he said in the first place.) Also, Queenie’s character is getting a bit on my nerves. She’s seems a little evil. Is it her bad acting or what? But I think she’s not that simple.
Power & June
June Chan and Power Chan also has their relationship in the story. Bascially, June has a boyfriend, but he is married to a rich lady. He tells her that her wife treats her bad and he only loves June. So he goes gambling and owes a lot of money. June, believing his false words, offers him money to repay his debts while Power refuses to help her friend and does not want him to bother June. I like to watch June and all, but her character is so stupid. Sorry, to June fans. But Power is a really nice guy. He’s hard-working and considerate of others, everything you want for a boyfriend, though sometimes he can be boring to hang out with.
Random Thoughts
The series is on the climax right now. There is one more week of SLII. The series so far is pretty good. Nothing orginal or extraordinary, but very entertaining to a certain degree, especially Kenneth’s character. Hmm, I find it funny because I was ambivalent about whether or not to watch this series because Kenneth was the lead. But now, if he wasn’t the lead, I might not have continued to this point. So for Kenneth fans, especially for those who haven’t gotten a chance around the series, go for it! It’s his first debut as main lead. He has an interesting and entaining character. Very humorous style and natural acting abilities!

Just been catching up on SLII lately and I think the series is actually getting better.

At least I began to like Ella’s character more and more. Well, not like, but interested. I really enjoy the scenes of Kenneth and Ella together. They have pretty good chemistry in the bickering parts. But I still think Ella could improve on her emotional skills, especially her crying skills. I recall the scene where she realized that her ex-boyfriend lied to her about her wife being pregnant and he his love for Ella; it was not realistic and quite fake.
It is revealed that Kenneth actually has a daughter and his scenes with his daughter are very humorous. His daughter is very cute as well. I enjoyed all their scenes together, from their happy moments where she wants his fatherly love to the sad times, when Kenneth accused her of stealing money and disowning her if the DNA report reveals that they are not blood-related. Ella is also friends with his daughter and she teaches her how her how to make herself beautiful and how a lady should act. I especially like the scene where the daughter finally decides to come home and makes Kenneth holds all her luggage. Once they are home, the daughter dictates Kenneth about how a lady should be and later tells him that if he wants to come into her room, he needs to knock first. He can’t come in until she says, “Come in.” I thought that was hilarious when Kenneth told her friends.
I also like the small scene where Jacky Wong appears and he slaps Kenneth. He was just acting like an adult. To make a long story short, Jacky’s parents are getting divorced and while her mother is speaking with Ella about the case, Kenneth accompanies Jacky in his office. Jacky begins asking Kenneth questions about love and relationships and Kenneth says its a “adult game.” Jacky continues to ask Kenneth questions and he thinks Jacky is very annoying. I especially like the part where Jacky says the famous saying, “ching sai guan, ching wai ho mut” (if you know what I’m saying). Aww…. he is such a cute and talented actor!

Hmm… Sammul and Selena moments are rare. They barely have any scenes together while the story focuses on Ella and Kenneth more. But basically, Selena’s father hates Sammul at first because he’s merely an assistant at the firm. Before he thought Sammul was a “big” lawyer. Furthermore, when Sammul refuses to marry so soon, his father gets annoyed and demands that Selena break up with the guy. However, throughout this whole thing, Selena is stuck between her family and her boyfriend. Even though she’s a little pissed with Sammul, she is able to control her temper. This is a pretty different role compared to other Selena roles I’ve seen.
I think the four main leads’ chemistry is lacking here. I mean in the prequel Myolie, Raymond, Sammul, and Bernice all were friends and their chemistry is marvelous! However, since Selena is not a lawyer, which kind of disappointed me because then it means her scenes are reduced, she is not really friends with Kenneth and Ella. Moreover, Kenneth and Sammul’s friendship is no where as close as Sammul’s and Raymond’s in the prequel. I mean, Kenneth always hangs out with his friends and grandmother at his brother’s bar. In terms of chemistry, the prequel was way better. Also, I find Sammul’s character quite boring here. After losing his lawyer license for three years, he has changed so much; matured more. Kenneth and Raymond, on the other hand, were the ones who provided the comic relief and I loved both of their acting. At first I was afraid that Kenneth would not be able to hold a lead role, but I am wrong. Selena’s acting was, of course, better than Bernice’s (in 2003). Bernice improved a lot now.
January 12, 2008

Just started watching Survivor’s Law II yesterdy. I didn’t have high expectations for this series at first since I’m not a fan of either of the stars, except Selena. However, Kenneth’s acting totally surprised me! Defnitely improved since the last time I watched him. Probably because he has more screen time now that he has more time to develop his character, I like his acting more. This is probably the first series where Kenneth plays the lead male, even above Sammul, who has been the lead way before him. But I am still disappointed that Ella Koon was the female lead because I don’t find her acting superb or anything. It’s acceptable, I guess. I wished TVB paired Kenneth up with someone else, a TVB star, rather. I don’t think Ella’s a good lawyer, not only because she helps the wrong people to fight for justice, like the case about the dog, but she doesn’t speak eloquently like Myolie did at the courts. I don’t think she plays the rich girl too convincingly.

Sammul and Selena moments were greatly reduced. I’m quite disappointed. Unlike Ella and Kenneth’s quarreling relationship, this couple is very caring compassionate towards each other. I must admit that I don’t like these types of love stories, but still looking forward to their chemistry. The arguing and bickering is much more fun to watch. Sammul’s character seems to have changed and matured so much that it’s quite unbelivable. In the prequel, he was very funny and talkative, but now he barely speaks anymore. Just kidding, he does, but not the joking type. I understand why he want to change firms, but the story didn’t make mention of Raymond and Myolie. I know its not very necessary, but it’s just odd to me. At first, I was like no way because Kenneth is replacing Raymond, but now, it’s yes way! Kenneth is probably more humorous than Ray, but I still like Raymond as an actor more. The only cast I don’t like now is Ella.
Quennie Chu was also in this series as Ella’s friend and her father’s assistant. She isn’t as pretty as she use to be, that is, when she was participating in MHK2004. Her acting is rather stiff, but I guess it’s okay for a newcomer like her, but I don’t find her too attractive anymore.
Rebecca and Waise is another couple here and they are pretty funny sometimes.
Rebecca loves money and wants his husband to accept any case that comes to their firm, but Waise will just rather play golf and tennis. But their relationship is still sweet and tender despite their differences.
