Forensic Heroes II Ep. 1-4
I am currently watching this highly-anticipated series. I did not want to watch the series when TVB first started airing it because I knew it would be addicting. All series which involves cases and mysteries are that way and I’ll rather finish it off rather quickly, in a few days. I’m not a crazy fan of Forensic Heroes, like some of you are, but the series is definately more interesting than many other serials today. For some reason, the cases in FHII did not meet my expectations. It failed to bring the suspense I was hoping for. I learn a new thing or two once in a while, but thats all.
On the other hand, what brings the suspense in the story is the romance. I was never a fan of Frankie and Linda, probably because of the age gap. Nor did I find their story in in FH convincing or touching in any way. But when I start watching their characters in FHII, I just take my eyes off the wonderful couple! They are so cute together! All the things they did for each other was very cute and touching. They are certainly the focus on the story as of right now while Bobby and Yoyo are boring, but can be funny/pitiful sometimes. Bobby should learn more lessons from Frankie on how to please his girlfriend. Haha…anyway, I can’t wait to see the next episode, because Linda’s character is going to die just before the wedding! Ah!
Charmaine and Kevin’s character are actually nice to watch, surprisingly. Kevin’s acting, or rather his character, is handsome and hot. Charmaine never smiles and I think she should loosen up sometimes, but she is a real pro! Somehow, I just think Yoyo and Bobby’s characters lost the spotlight this time, or were they ever the spotlight? I just want to comment that I do not like Yoyo’s new hairstyle. It makes her look old or just somewhat weird. I don’t know, but with Charmaine here, Yoyo seems a little lost (downgraded), not the actress, the character I mean.

Veterans Make a Comeback!!!
Michael Miu
Series: The Academy, Into Thin Air, The Drive of Life, Suspicious Love
Obviously, since Miu returned to the showbiz, though he still gets lead roles like in every series he has been so far, the characters aren’t as captivating and meaningful as those he obtained in the 80’s. I have been watching Miu series for a long time now and his role as Chor Lau Heung in the 1984 production has been one of my all-time favorites! However, the quality of TVB serials has been declining in the last two of three years. I haven’t seen The Academy and am not planning to due to the tedious storyline of it’s sequel On the First Beat. His performance in Into Thin Air, though was good as usual, his character failed to give off the sparks it use to back in the old days. Lately, I finished The Drive of Life and even though his character was not the extremely intelligent and charismatic type he use to take, it took on another perspective: humourous and cute. DOL, for the most part, takes on a more serious tone, and as a result, Miu’s character does give off comic relief! Very enjoyable.
Next year, Miu will be filming Suspicious with Anita and according to the Sales Presentation, the storyline indeed seems captivating. Mysterious, rather than the tedious comedy TVB likes to present its audience with these days.
Idy Chan
Series: Catch Me Now
My favorite actress returning to the screen is such a dream come true for me. When I first fell in love with her character in The Grand Canal, I began searching for her info online, but so sad to hear that she has retired from acting. All these years, I have been hoping that she will return to the showbiz and now YES! However, though Idy suprised me by her sudden return, I was disappointed when she announced “NO INTIMATE SCENES”. In other words, no kissing, no hugging, and most ridiculous, no holding hands! Yes, even though she’s my favorite, I must admit that it’s ridiculous for her say that. I mean the kissing part is okay, but when she says “no holding hands”, I don’t know what she was thinking. Honestly, the romantic part is what sparks up the whole series (well, usually), so I don’t see how a relationship can be taking place when there is no holding hands and no hugging.
Anyway, no matter what, I will still watch Catch Me Now even though I cannot find a reason I want to watch it especially when I hate Joe Ma after The Drive of Life (no just kidding, I don’t hate him, but his character in DOL) and don’t like Fala’s accent. Even Damien, I only started to have a different perspective of this guy after DOL.
By the way, I think Fala’s beauty resembles Idy’s in a way. Don’t you think? Or probably not.
Michelle Yim
Series: The Brink of Law, Heart of Greed, Heart of Greed II
I’ve seen quite a few Michelle series in the 80’s, but never really have been a fan of hers. But as I recall, none of those roles was as evil as the one she took in The Brink of Law. In fact, none of her characters were villainous, if I recall correctly. Even though she was evil, she was beautiful as the wealthy wife who was invovled in illegal business along with his husband. However, in the phenomenal, big-budget grand production Heart of Greed, her role was greatly reduced compared to Lee Sze Kei and Susanna Kwan. Fortunately, in its sequel her role will increase as she will be the villain! Somehow I enjoy watching Michelle series nowadays than those back in the 80’s.
Margie Tsang
Series: When a Dog Falls in Love with a Cat, Curious Dective (D.I.E.), The Family Link II Probably most people have heard of Margie and Kenneth Ma’s affair. I find it weird since she is like nine or ten years older than him. Anyway, I didn’t know that she has returned to the acting business until only lately since she has been telling the media for the past few years that she’s embarrassed about her acting or something like that. When my mom told me, I found it unbelievable, but happy at the same time. Though Margie haven’t been as popular as other 80’s stars like Idy Chan and Barbara Yung, many fans still enjoyed her performances. Probably because of the roles she took were mostly the spoiled and bratty type like in The Dragon Sword and The Grand Canal. Anyway, so nice to hear that she will be in several series next year. Looking forward to her performance, espeically in Curious Dectective with Roger Kwok.
Lee Sze Kei
Series: Heart of Greed, Heart of Greed II
After her superb performance in the highly-rated Heart of Greed, Lee won the Best Actress award for her role, Ling Hau at TVB’s 40th Anniversary Awards Ceremony. I have always thought Lee to be a good actress, especially playing the mother type in A Kindred Spirit. She was understanding, loving, and caring towards everyone and most importantly, unbiased! However, in HOG, I did not find her character to be that warming. I don’t know why. It’s just the character probably, but Lee does indeed have a pleasant-looking face and can play these types of role so well.
Obviously, after so much acclaim for her HOG character, she will be in the sequel!
Cecilia Yip
Series: Men Don’t Cry, The Family Link
I think Cecilia’s acting skills are overrated. Truly, I don’t see anything special about her acting. It’s actually very boring to watch. I mean, it’s only average. I just finished The Family Link and the series was surprisingly great except for her. She ruined the series. I even started liking Kenneth more, but not Cecilia. She spoke very slow. She did not do well in any of the scenes. When she was angry it seems like she was just pretending to be because the script requires her to do so. I don’t hope to see her in anymore series. Sorry, no offense to Cecilia fans, but it’s just my opinion.
Michael Tao
Series: Fantasy Hotel, On the First Beat, Wasabi Mon Amour
I have seen Michael act since the 80’s and he’s one of my favorite actors! Love his performances in practically every series he’s been in, even the ones where he plays the villain! I mean usually everyone hates the villain (with exceptions, occassionall), but not him. He can act very mean and nasty when he wants to be or very filial and loyal when the character requries him to. I believe he left TVB for some years and went to ATV since I saw him in Flaming Brothers and To Where He Belongs, where he played a filial son in the former and a money-hungry culprit in the latter. Just love his acting in both, especially the way he shouts. He can really scare you! Furthermore, when he’s trying to be nice, he’s so sweet. Unfortunately, despite his efforts, I guess not many people notice him. It’s such a waste to put him in such a silly series like Fantasy Hotel while his acting is way better than stars like Moses Chan and Bowie Lam. Probably because he wasn’t very loyal to TVB in the first place since ATV is their enemy. I mean I heard that Gallen went to ATV for a while and now he’s back, but stuck is stupid series like When a Dog Falls in Love with a Cat. Really, come on.
Even though On the First Beat is not a comedy and it had descent ratings, I found the series extremely boring after three episodes or so. Moreover, fans doesn’t even talk about his performance at all, but only the hotties like Ron Ng and Sammul Chan (who are both descent actors). Next year, he’ll be starring in Wasabi Mon Amour, which looks like a cooking series and which I know will be very boring.
By the way, for those of you who care, some 80’s series Michael was in includes: The Grand Canal, Dharma, and Yang’s Saga. Michael has the looks, the acting, but never got promoted to the main lead. The 80’s was very different from today. Anyone with descent acting (meaning worse that his) can be promoted to lead role. You can take several stars for example such as Kenneth Ma and Sammul Chan (both who I like, but honestly speaking, their acting is not enough to be promoted to lead roles).
